Agar Tum Sath Ho: Ramsha, Farhan and Saahir are friends, but even as we spot the light-hearted banter, the screenplay reveals that there’s a lot more lurking beneath.

It is great to see Mawra Hocane, Ameer Gilani and Zaviyar Naumaan Ejaz sharing the screen, even more so as all three delivered impactful performances as stand-alone characters and also gave us an intriguing onscreen chemistry to set the stage for the drama to come.
The characters and story
Farhan played by Ameer Gilani, is the laid-back sportsman who just can’t be pulled into a ‘boring’ day job. His interactions with Ramsha are fun to watch as they both give off a vibe that’s both energetic and seems utterly natural. Yet, one wonders if there’s more beneath the surface of this seemingly ‘cool’ character. Farhan has yet to reveal all his cards but his conversation with Saahir about Naveen (Srha Asgr) gave us a subtle insight into a feel that “there’s more to this guy.”
Ramsha is the levelheaded, yet fun loving young girl essayed by Mawra who is matching up to her job and also knows how to have a good time with friends. She seems to be ignorant or unconcerned about any feelings Saahir (Zaviyar’s character) or Farhan have towards her, yet she seems to be equally at ease with both. In fact, forming a bridge between these two – the serious, no-nonsense Saahir and the not so serious Farhan.
Saahir played by Zaviyar is certainly the definition of still waters run deep – or rather, there’s more to this guy than meets the eye. His picture-perfect image has a sharp dent, and we saw that with the coffee moment (no spoilers), and the restrained irritability over Farhan’s sense of humour. But he definitely has a thing for Ramsha, and sharp as he is, we conclude that he is trying to match up Farhan with Naveen so that the coast is clear for him.
Naveen’s character is performed by Srha Asghar and it’s great to see her back onscreen. Agar Tum Saath Ho surely has a talented cast, and we think we’re in for an intense drama (don’t be fooled by the song and dance in the first episode) that will pull us into the story, despite the month of Ramzan nearly upon us.
Wardrobe
Shout out to the wardrobe here. Ramsha’s outfits were so in character and relatable to many young girls watching off the screen. Naveen in her red jora and Farhan in his cricket set and later at the wedding set the screen on fire while Saahir did what Saahir will probably be doing best – telling us why his personality suits his suits…!
The Look and Feel
The frames held a bright feel, and every scene seemed to have been finely crafted as director Adnan Sarwar worked his magic onscreen. It is great to see the screen switching from dark, sepia-toned colors we often see in many drama serials to brighter tones and a wider canvas. Both the wedding scenes and the cricket field invited the viewer into the screen because of innovative camera angles and sharp editing. In the same way, Farhan and Ramsha taking photographs in Saahir’s room was an engrossing watch. The episode zipped by in literally no time.
Onwards to the final cap
No spoilers, but the episode did end with a shocker. There was a mixed plate of parenting, relationship dynamics, social messaging and more in the final scene. It was interesting to see how the mood shifted in a split second; from festive to intense and how the story connected what was said earlier to Farhan (something we might have forgotten), to land him in trouble here.
A bit on the dialogues and narrative here. The groom’s reaction, although meant to send out a message, was a tad over the top, only because there was no sign of him behaving in this manner earlier. Neither Tania’s family nor Dilshad’s had given us a hint that they could be so difficult. Hence the toxic angle seemed a bit overplayed.
It almost seemed as if, in a rush to sum up the Tania-Dilshad story, which did not really get much space earlier in the episode, the ending was forced onto audiences. Perhaps a bit more background on the groom or a slightly muted yet forceful reaction would have worked better. In retrospect, Farhan, forgetting what he was told to do, probably did a service to his sister, because why would she or her family want to be with someone so toxic? Better to know now what you’d rather not find out later.
However, it seems that Farhan will certainly be painted as the ‘bad boy’ of the narrative. And no guesses as to who Mr. Perfect is. And that, folks, sums up Agar Tum Saath Ho first episode in a nutshell.
Agar Tum Saath Ho first episode seems to have only scratched the surface of a narrative that we expect will go deeper – revealing the finer layers of the characters and story as the story progresses.
